CO-CURRICULAR MUSIC

We are extremely proud of the range, quality and inclusivity of our co-curricular clubs and ensembles.  All our groups are open to all and are non-auditioned.  If you would like any further details, contact a member of the music staff.

Orchestra

Our orchestra is open to all players of orchestral instruments.  It meets on selected Wednesdays between 5.00 and 6.00pm in Mu1.

Concert Band

Our concert band is open to all orchestral wind and brass players as well as: saxophones, bass (electric or acoustic), drum kit, percussion and timpani.  It meets on selected Wednesdays between 5.00 and 6.00pm in Mu1.

Rock & Pop Choir

Our Rock & Pop Choir is open to all students from all years.  It learns by ear and performs popular music & musical theatre.  It meets each Tuesday lunchtime in Mu1.

A Cappella Choir

A Cappella Choir is open to any students in years 10-13.  It meets on occasional Tuesdays after school in Mu1.

​The Thomas Hardye Singers

​The Thomas Hardye Singers is open to all students from all years.  It performs more traditional classical sacred and secular choral music.  The choir performs evensong in Cathedrals, Churches and Abbeys as well as alongside orchestras and in our school concerts.  It meets each Friday between 3.30 and 5.00pm in Mu1.

Big Band

Big Band is open to trumpets, trombones, saxophones, piano, organ, guitar, bass, drums and percussion.  It meets on selected Tuesdays between 3.30 and 5.00pm in Mu1.

Flute Choir

Flute Choir is open to students from all years and allows flautists to play together as well as exploring some larger flutes such as alto and bass.  It meets each Wednesday between 3.45 and 5.00 in Mu2.

Clarinet Ensemble

This student led ensemble is open to all clarinetists and allows them to explore some of the alternative instruments such as bass clarinet.  It meets each Wednesday between 3.45 and 5.00pm in the live room.

Saxophone Ensemble

Saxophone Ensemble is open to all saxophonists and allows them to explore some of the alternative instruments such as soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones.  It meets each Wednesday between 3.45 and 5.00pm in the PA3.

Brass Group

Brass Group is open to cornet, trumpet, French horn, trombone and tuba players and meets each Wednesday between 3.45 and 4.45 in Mu4.

Folk Group

This student led ensemble is open to all suitable instruments and meets each Monday lunchtime in Mu1.

Rock Bands

The school facilitates rock bands to form, meet and rehearse.  Practice rooms are available on multiple days, with a weekly club which includes coaching each Wednesday lunchtime in Mu1, Mu2 & Mu4.

Theory, Set Work & Composition Help

In addition to our ensembles, the department runs weekly surgeries for Composition (GCSE & A Level) and GCSE Set Works. We also offer group Theory Lessons.
