A LEVEL MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

"Shaping the sound of tomorrow"

Overview

Music technology is a rapidly evolving, expanding and exciting field that is transforming the way we create, experience, and interact with music. By studying Edexcel A-Level Music Technology, students will have the opportunity to explore this cutting-edge area of study and develop the skills and knowledge that are in high demand in the music industry today. From learning how to use digital audio workstations and sound design software, to producing and manipulating audio and creating their own compositions, the Edexcel A-Level Music Technology syllabus is designed to give them a comprehensive education in this dynamic field. Whether they aspire to a career as a music producer, sound engineer, or composer, or simply want to understand how music technology is shaping the future of music, Edexcel A-Level Music Technology is the perfect course for them. They will gain hands-on experience, develop their technical skills, and broaden their musical horizons as they delve into the exciting world of music technology.

Why Study at THS?

Our students benefit from outstanding facilities, including a state-of-the-art music ICT suite equipped with the latest industry-standard software, and a dedicated recording studio. Our exceptional co-curricular provision further enriches our students’ musical lives.
Our department consistently achieves excellent results with last year’s cohort of Music Technology A Level students achieving progress from GCSE that was in the top 15% nationally.  Part of the reason for this is our highly experienced teaching staff and smaller classes, allowing high levels of individual support and care.

Entry Requirements

Many of our students progress into the A Level having studied GCSE or BTEC Music, however this is not compulsory.  Students need to be able to demonstrate a passion for music and creativity.  This can be done through discussion with the head of music.

Progression

Many of our A Level Music Technology students go on to pursue degree courses at top universities in areas such as Music Production, Sound Engineering, Audio Technology, Media Composition, and Film or Game Sound Design, while others progress into careers in musical performing, broadcasting, live sound, education, and media.  Equally, the skills gained through A Level Music Technology (teamwork, project management, creative problem-solving, digital literacy, and analytical thinking) are widely recognised and valued in disciplines beyond the arts, including Law, Maths, Sciences, Business, Languages and Engineering, where commitment, collaboration, and attention to detail are essential. Over the years, we have had many students gain places to Oxbridge or other Russel Group universities with Music Technology A level as one of their high grades, even if they haven’t opted to study music technology at degree level.
